Iowa is known for being a top agricultural state in the country. However, 1 in 9 Iowans are food insecure (food insecurity can be described as not having access to sufficient food or food of adequate quality to meet one's basic needs).
In 2024, we (Ben and Sarah Smith) set a goal of donating pork that we raise at Phenotypic Acres to local food pantries. With the hogs produced in 2024, we were able to put 500 lbs of high quality pork into 2 local food pantries. However, we quickly learned that there is a greater need for high quality meat products in the local food pantry.
Here is where we want to work with you! In 2025, Phenotypic Acres is excited to start our Local Meat in the Food Pantry Program. Our ultimate goal is to work with our community to be able to donate more local meat in food pantries across the state of Iowa.
If you would like to make a donation to this program, click the button below to donate through our online payment portal or contact us at hoffmanberks@gmail.com or 515.468.7589 (Sarah) to see how you can donate via a check/ cash.
